LiveSky — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 October 2026
In short: LiveSky has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and the developer runs no servers. Your settings stay on your device. To show aircraft, your browser requests public flight data for the map area you selected directly from adsb.fi. The settings map loads its tiles from OpenStreetMap.
What LiveSky stores on your device
All settings are kept in your browser's local extension storage
(chrome.storage.local). Apart from the rounded area center used for
flight data requests (see below), they never leave your device:
- the map area you watch (center coordinates and zoom scale),
- appearance settings (icon size, colors, opacity, heatmap on/off),
- whether the overlay is enabled globally, and the addresses (origins) of websites where you switched it on or off individually,
- your location pin, only while it is shown, if you used “Find my location” (see below).
Removing the extension deletes this data.
What leaves your device
Flight data requests to adsb.fi. While a browser tab with the overlay is visible, LiveSky requests aircraft positions from the public adsb.fi Open Data API every few seconds. Each request contains the center coordinates of your selected map area, rounded to about 1 km, and a search radius. It also carries the extension's name and version and the developer's contact address, as requested by adsb.fi — no information about you. As with any web request, adsb.fi can see your IP address. No requests are made while no overlay tab is visible.
Map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When you open the toolbar popup or
the settings page, the map loads its images from the OpenStreetMap tile servers
(tile.openstreetmap.org), which can see your IP address and the map
area you view. See the
OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
LiveSky does not read the content of the websites you visit and does not send
your browsing history or any page addresses anywhere. On each page it only adds
its own transparent drawing layer and reads the page's origin (for example
https://example.com) to apply your per-site setting.
Your location
Only when you click "Find my location" on the settings page does LiveSky look up your current position - once per click, never automatically and never in the background. It centers your watched area on your position and marks it with a pin on the map. The exact position is stored only on your device, and only while the pin is shown. To fetch flight data, the center of your watched area, rounded to about 1 km, is sent to adsb.fi, so after a location lookup this is your approximate position. This feature requires the "Detect your physical location" permission that Chrome shows at installation; it ends when you disable or remove LiveSky.
Additional details: switching off “Show my location” deletes the exact position from your device; a new lookup replaces it. The watched area is centered on your position rounded to about 1 km, so only this approximate location remains saved among your settings until you move the map to another area. Your location is not logged. Besides adsb.fi, only OpenStreetMap can infer it: the map then shows the area around your position, and its tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap (see above).
Limited Use
The use of information received by LiveSky complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the extension's single purpose — showing aircraft in the map area you selected on the web pages you view — and is never sold, transferred for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness.
